A very well made bass viol by Hans Zölch, possibly the best of the mid-20th century Saxon makers. Based on the instruments of the Leipzig maker, Johann Christian Hoffmann (active ca. 1700-1750)

2 piece top of fine matched pine, 2 piece back of broad figured maple and matching sides. The neck and scroll are of plainer timber. Rosewood and maple fittings.
